Returning Sri Lankans & Foreign Residents

Annual duty-free allowance limit of USD 2,000.
Quantity limits as set out in Schedule I, applies per arrival into Sri Lanka after overseas travel.
Allowance will commence upon entry registration at The Mall and has to be within 4 days of arrival to Sri Lanka (including the arrival date).
Purchase within 4 days of each arrival to Sri Lanka after overseas travel.
Two visits allowed within 4 days of in respect to each arrival to Sri Lanka after overseas travel.
Allowance is valid for one year from the date of allowance commencement.
Permitted customer and one other family member are allowed.
Any unused balance of the USD 2,000 allowance expires at the end of the one-year validity period from the date of commencement of allowance.

Tourists

No annual allowance limit
No quantity limit.
Goods purchased are to be collected at the airport
Purchases can be made on multiple visits during the period of stay in Sri Lanka.
Any allowance unutilized expires within one year from First Date of Arrival (FDOA)
Only the permitted customer is allowed

Departing Sri Lankans & Foreign Residents

No annual allowance limit
No quantity limit.
Goods purchased are to be collected at the airport
Purchases are to be completed prior to the date of travel
Only the permitted customer is allowed

Diplomats & Diplomatic Organizations

Allowances, quantity limits, frequency of visits, validity of allowance and allowed persons are determined as per the approval received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
